Child safeguarding policy

Purpose

Our art classes aim to provide a safe, inspiring environment where children aged 7 to 11 can explore their creativity. The wellbeing and safety of every child are our top priorities.

Scope

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, and anyone involved in delivering or supporting the art classes.

The welfare of the child is paramount.
Every child has the right to be safe and treated with respect.
We are committed to complying with Scottish safeguarding guidelines and legislation.

Responsibilities

All staff and volunteers are PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) checked.
A designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) oversees child protection concerns and act as the main point of contact.
Any safeguarding concerns must be reported immediately to the DSL.

Code of Conduct

Staff must never be alone with a child unless in a visible and open space.
Positive behaviour management techniques will be used; no form of physical discipline is permitted.
Staff will ensure all materials and tools used in art projects are safe and age-appropriate.

Reporting Procedures

1. If you have concerns about a child’s safety, report them to the DSL.
2. The DSL will document concerns and liaise with local safeguarding authorities when needed.
3. In emergencies, concerns may be reported directly to Social Work Scotland or Police Scotland.
